Hiding below the surface of reality
Have found refugee in the hands of fantasy
Illusion is what lies ahead
Stimulating my crazy head
The clock tic tacs as the time passes away
All I can think is you in my memory
In my soul you’ve been engraved, deep within
And keep you there, odd things between
Can’t seem to touch with my grasp
I can’t longer hold on with my clasp
It is strange you’re not so far
It is shows that you really are
We all need a friend as we walk this road of life;
a friend to help us though long days and lonely nights.
A friend is someone who loves you even when you’re wrong.
A friend stays by your side, when all your hope in gone.
We all need a friend to stand beside us in our pain;
When our heart is bleeding out and the sun has turned to rain.
We need a friend to lean on, when we don’t know how to stand;
A friend is who we call on, when we need a helping hand.
The stomach clenches, and the mouth runs dry,
At the sight of the upturned bottle, behind the bar.
One drink is too many…Twenty, not enough,
You know you’ve already had too much, by far.
But the bottle is there, beckoning you,
Tempting you, with it’s intoxicating charm.
You’re fighting to control that rising urge,
One more drink would do you no harm.
Poetry is available, in all shapes and forms,
It’s a nursery rhyme, from the day we are born;
It’s a little recital, to help us succeed,
When being taught at school, the right way to read.
Playground singing in long gone times,
Skipping ropes and ball games, to nostalgic rhymes;
Listening to older kids, swear and curse,
Is poetry to your ears, like forbidden verse.
The word when written, or even spoken
can unite entire Nations, with it's bond.
The enlightenment of verse in any language
can bridge cultural barriers, and beyond.
We may only percieve our native tongue,
but that is no barrier to one and all;
From cities afar, to the desert's sands
they will answer the poet's call.
Free verse or traditional...anything goes,
once deciphered, the words, like a jigsaw blend;
Enjoyed by the World, the rich and the poor,
across Continents it's message, it'll send.
