Funeral Poem for a Soldier – IED (Improvised Explosive Device)
He could handle it all, and fight all he could see,
But the hidden device is what took him from me.
If it came to a fight, he could well hold his own,
But a hidden explosive meant his life was blown.
He was upright and strong, courageous and brave,
Unlike the coward who took him to his grave.
It was there in the road, but was hidden from sight,
Just covered in dirt, and put there in the night.
That was the difference between wrong and right,
They hid in the darkness, he fought in the light.
And now that it’s over, and he’s back at home,
We’re proud of our soldier. We’re proud of our own.
And we won’t forget them, the ones that have died,
Nor the ones that are injured, the ones who have cried.
And we will cry too, and salute those that fall,
in the service of others and freedom for all.
For we will remember, and and yes, some will weep,
As now our brave soldier, we lay down to sleep,
And we will think well of our bravest and best
As now we commit him, to victories rest.
